The Phenomenology of Nostalgia--Rasebar and the Architecture of the Existential Shelter

​This working paper introduces a novel theoretical framework within the field of phenomenological psychology to redefine the mechanism of nostalgia. Moving beyond conventional definitions of nostalgia as mere "longing," this study conceptualizes nostalgia as a composite affective structure through the introduction of "Rasebar" (Affective Radiative-Diffusion). ​The author posits that nostalgia operates within a dual-layer model: an outer layer of "Keteduhan" (Serenity/Existential Shelter) and a core of "Haru" (Poignancy). The paper identifies two critical prerequisites for the emergence of "pure" nostalgia: a temporal threshold (a minimum of 8 years) and the process of spatial defamiliarization. ​By employing a descriptive-phenomenological approach, this work explores how localized memories expand into global atmospheric moods, providing an "existential shelter" for the subject. This paper serves as an initial theoretical foundation for further qualitative inquiry into the structure of human consciousness and long-term emotional memory.
