This study aimed to clarify the factors and characteristics that lead university students wishing to become physical education teachers to career in teaching.We conducted a questionnaire survey with 1,698 participants.The survey included two items: basic attributes and motivation to apply for teaching.The results showed the following.First, university students wishing to become physical education teachers aspire to the teaching profession for eight factors:"work style","recommendation from those close to them", "self-worth" , "relationships with children" , "involvement with the school" , "prosociality" , "collaboration with people" and "social reputation" .Second, university students wishing to become physical education teachers can be divided into three types: " standard motivation type" , "social motivation type" and "intrinsic and extrinsic motivation type" .In conclusion, this study clarified some of the characteristics of university students wishing to become physical education teachers.Finally, the limitations and future directions of this research were discussed.
