This study examines the role and impact of AI-powered Virtual Teaching Assistants (VTAs) on modern education, focusing on learning effectiveness, student engagement, and personalized support. The research explores how AI-driven tools influence teaching processes, reduce workload, and enhance student–teacher interaction. The objectives include evaluating the effectiveness of VTAs in improving learning outcomes, identifying student preferences, and assessing AI usefulness in answering queries, providing feedback, and supporting academic tasks. A mixed-method approach was adopted, involving surveys and short task-based interactions with an AI assistant. Participants were divided into two groups—one using an AI assistant for learning tasks and another using only traditional methods. Results showed that students using AI assistance demonstrated improved concept clarity, faster doubt resolution, and higher engagement levels. However, participants also highlighted concerns such as over-dependence and reduced critical thinking. Overall, most students felt that AI provided efficient, quick, and personalized learning support, while teachers viewed it as a helpful tool for automating routine tasks.
