April 24, 2026, is the deadline for US Government agencies, as well as public educational institutions and businesses worldwide that hold contracts with them, to comply with the international Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines aim to make online content accessible for people with visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, and neurological disabilities. The requirement is a belated update to the Americans with Disabilities Act, which states that “unfair and unnecessary discrimination and prejudice denies people with disabilities the opportunity to compete on an equal basis and to pursue those opportunities for which our free society is justifiably famous”.
