Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has become a promising autologous biological product in regenerative medicine due to its high platelet count and rich content of growth factors, cytokines, and other bioactive mediators. PRP plays an important role in tissues repair, enhancing blood vessel formation, stimulating cell growth, and speeding up the healing process of wounds. Over the years, different methods for preparing PRP and classification systems have been developed, which emphasize variations in platelet concentration, presence of white blood cells, and structure of fibrin. These factors can impact how well PRP works in therapy. Evidence is growing that supports the use of PRP in various medical areas such as orthopedics, dermatology, urology, dentistry, and sports medicine. Despite its widespread use, challenges like inconsistent preparation methods, lack of standard dosing, and mixed results in studies make it difficult to apply it universally. This review covers the biological aspects of PRP, the methods for its preparation, how it works, its clinical applications, case studies, and future directions. The aim is to provide a full understanding of PRP as a regenerative treatment and highlight the need for standard procedures and guidelines based on strong evidence to improve its use in clinical settings.
