Natural resource management needs the application of environmental meteorology for achievement of a sustainable management of our natural resources. Satellite remote sensing technology has gained recognition as an important source of meteorological data acquisition to complement the traditional methods of meteorological data acquisition. The introduction of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into meteorology has helped in the combination of various maps and satellite information sources that help in modeling to simulate the interactions of complex natural systems for proper understanding of our environment for sustainable natural resource management. This paper, therefore, provided a brief overview of satellite remote sensing and GIS Applications in environmental meteorology along with a description of the WMO Satellite Activities Programme. Promotion of new specialized software that will make the applications of the various devices easier, bearing in mind the possible combination of several types of inputs is recommended
