Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping educational systems worldwide, and its impact is particularly significant in rapidly digitizing countries such as India. This paper critically examines AI's influence on pedagogy, assessment practices, learner engagement, and institutional administration. Drawing upon NEP 2020, NDEAR, Digital India, and NITI Aayog's National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, this study synthesizes contemporary literature, policy frameworks, and expert insights. It investigates how AI-driven tools enhance personalized learning, expand digital content access, support inclusive education, and strengthen data-driven decisions. Simultaneously, it analyses challenges related to digital inequality, data privacy, algorithmic bias, teacher preparedness, and ethical governance. Using an exploratory qualitative approach, this research evaluates the societal, ethical, and legislative implications of integrating AI into education. Recommendations are offered for policymakers, educators, and EdTech stakeholders to ensure sustainable, equitable, and ethically aligned adoption of AI in India.
