SHGs have emerged as an effective grassroots mechanism for enhancing the socio-economic status of women by facilitating access to financial resources, skill development, and collective decision-making. The primary objective of the study is to analyze how SHGs contribute to improving women’s economic independence, social participation, and overall empowerment. SHGs play a vital role in enhancing women’s self-confidence, leadership skills, and awareness of social and legal rights. Women involved in SHGs are more likely to participate in community development activities and local governance, thereby strengthening their social and political empowerment. However, the study also identifies challenges such as lack of adequate training, limited market access, and occasional financial mismanagement within groups. This study concludes that SHGs serve as a powerful instrument for women empowerment by fostering economic independence, social inclusion, and collective strength. Strengthening institutional support, providing skill-based training, and improving market linkages can further enhance the effectiveness of SHGs in achieving sustainable development and gender equality. Overall, the study concludes that SHGs play a crucial role in empowering women economically and socially in Gadag District, though continuous support, training, and policy intervention are necessary to maximize their impact.
