In post-colonial times, newly liberated nations have an eagerness to assert their cultures, religions and value-systems. It is only when the Evangelizer develops the ability to bridge cultural distances does he/she acquire the persuasive power required for proposing Gospel solutions to diverse human problems. Such proposals, even under a secular garb, can powerfully point to Jesus. He will be most effective when he influences thought-provokers, opinion-shapers, and value-setters in society. Such a deeper sharing is possible only in contexts of ‘intimacy’.
