Abstract Physical education plays a key role in the holistic development of students by promoting physical fitness, mental health, and social well-being. In recent decades, rapid technological advancement and urbanization have led to sedentary lifestyles among children and adolescents, increasing their vulnerability to lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Physical education provides an effective solution to these challenges by encouraging active participation in structured physical activities and fostering lifelong healthy habits. This paper brings the multifaceted role of physical education in enhancing students’ physical fitness, mental health, academic performance, and social development. It emphasizes the importance of integrating innovative teaching strategies, modern infrastructure, and inclusive policies to strengthen physical education programs. The study is based on secondary data from academic literature and reports. The findings indicate that physical education is an essential component of education systems and contributes significantly to building a healthier and more productive society.
