An urgent problem of modern society is considered – the spread of destructive youth movements that pose a threat to individuals and public safety. The paper substantiates the need for a criminological analysis of this phenomenon in order to develop effective preventive measures. In the course of the research, the author applied a set of methodological approaches, including general scientific (system-structural analysis, generalization) and specialized methods relevant to the subject of the study (content analysis). Modern destructive youth movements have been identified and examined: swatting, «Explain for clothes», the Incel movement, the Columbine movement and criminogenic factors contributing to the involvement of young people in these movements, including socio-economic deprivation, insufficient effectiveness of the education and upbringing system, as well as the influence of the Internet and social networks. The results obtained made it possible to formulate proposals on measures for the general social prevention of the phenomena under consideration. Thus, the main measures to prevent modern youth destructive movements include: the active use of Internet technologies for counter-propaganda and promotion of positive values, professional development of teachers, psychologists and social workers in the field of prevention of extremism and destructive behavior, the installation of special programs and filters, including «parental control» on the technical devices of children and adolescents, the development of the Federal Law «On the Prevention of destructive Movements», etc.
