Between 1945 and 1947, as the United States transitioned from a wartime stance to the beginnings of the Containment Doctrine, the United States Marine Corps similarly had to reorient itself from a focus on the Pacific Basin to one on the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Europe. In the postwar Pacific, Marine Corps deployments were dominated by budget and personnel cuts which dictated unit demobilization, base closures, and major redeployments even while the defense of the region had to be provided during the early stages of the Second Cold War.
