Diagnosis (Vyadhi Vinischaya) forms the cornerstone of successful therapeutic intervention in Ayurveda. However, overlapping clinical manifestations arising due to common involvement of Dosha, Dushya and Srotas often lead to diagnostic ambiguity. Vyavacchedaka Nidana, the principle of differential diagnosis in Ayurveda, enables precise differentiation between clinically similar disease entities by identifying their specific distinguishing features. Among the various diagnostic parameters, Pratyatma Lakshana represents the cardinal, disease-specific manifestation that serves as a decisive factor in confirming the diagnosis. This article aims to analyze the concept of Vyavacchedaka Nidana and to evaluate the role of Pratyatma Lakshana in enhancing diagnostic precision, understanding disease-specific Samprapti and guiding rational therapeutic interventions.
