This ecosystems module was designed as part of a 100-level introductory undergraduate environmental science course. The slides include learning objectives, an overview of trophic levels and the parts of an ecosystem with examples and pictures, and thoughtful discussion prompts to keep students engaged in the lesson, with an activity linked to the BioInteractive Energy Flow through Ecosystem web page. The Food Web Lab gives students a chance to work in partners or small groups to identify local trees and images of wildlife, apply internet search skills to find out more information, and create their own food web representing the ecosystem. The included quiz questions focus on key information in the learning objectives and may be a standalone quiz, used as a class review activity, or as part of a larger exam.
