Sthaulya (obesity) is described in Ayurveda as a disorder characterized by excessive accumulation of Meda dhatu (adipose tissue) resulting from Kapha predominance and impaired metabolism.1-3 It is associated with reduced physical activity, impaired digestion, and improper dietary habits.1 Classical Ayurvedic texts emphasize the importance of dietary regulation (Ahara), lifestyle modification (Vihara), and behavioral discipline in the prevention and management of obesity.1-3 The concept of Pathya (wholesome regimen) and Apathya (unwholesome regimen) forms the cornerstone of treatment,1-3 This review compiles classical dietary recommendations and lifestyle guidelines described for Sthaulya and interprets them in light of modern nutritional principles.⁶ Understanding these classical recommendations can provide an integrative framework for the effective management of obesity.1–⁴
