From June to November 2020 Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd. was commissioned by Ian Farmer Associates (IFA) to undertake trial trenching and mitigation excavations relating to the construction of an electricity interconnector between Revsing, Denmark and Bicker Fen, Lincolnshire. Trial trenching was undertaken along the AC Cable Route connecting the Convertor Station to the existing National Grid Substation at Bicker Fen and the permanent access road. Mitigation excavation was undertaken within the Convertor Station footprint and the western end of the AC Cable Route. The archaeological remains identified from the mitigation excavation encompassed two main periods of archaeological features - an Iron Age agricultural field system and a Romano-British field system with peripheral activity, potentially indicating the presence of a nearby settlement. The site appears to have transitioned from relatively small-scale Iron Age agricultural activity to a more structured and intensive Roman-influenced occupation of the land.
