Excavations associated with the installation of the new cable scheme were archaeologically monitored. The watching brief was continuous until either natural geology was reached or formation depth was achieved. Geoarchaeological samples were taken from appropriate deposits. The excavation of approximately 308m of cable pipe trench, a duct box, drill pit and valve joint trench were monitored in an archaeological watching brief. The stratigraphic sequence of the cable trench consisted of geology overlain by made ground deposits and then topsoil. The made ground deposits were consistent with the former, dismantled, railway. No significant archaeological deposits, features or artefacts were observed.
