A watching brief was carried out during the removal of overburden deposits in advance of the construction of a new road in Phase 1a development area at Land at Burghey Brook Farm. The monitored area contained the archaeological remains of ditches and pits of earliest Iron Age, Roman and early medieval date. Earliest Iron Age land-use comprised a cluster of four small pits and a ditch terminus in the centre of the area. Three Roman ditches on NW/SE alignments constitute a continuation of the Roman land-use recorded in Area 1, and a single early medieval ditch was partially exposed in the northeast. Two undated ditches terminated in the southwest of the monitored area contained small, fragmented pottery assemblages
