The Impact of Balanced Scorecard Efficiency on Sustainability Disclosure: Evidence from Banks Listed on the Palestine and Amman Stock Exchanges

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effect of balanced performance efficiency on sustainability disclosure in banks listed on the Palestine and Amman Stock Exchanges during the period 2015–2022.Methodology: The study adopted a quantitative analytical approach by processing data from 20 banks. The results showed that the level of sustainability disclosure was relatively low, amounting to 35% according to the adopted index. Results.: The findings also indicated a significant effect of all dimensions of the Balanced Scorecard on the level of sustainability report disclosure. Conclusions: The study reached a set of conclusions reflecting the nature of the relationship between the Balanced Scorecard and the level of sustainability disclosure in banks listed on the Palestine and Amman stock exchanges during the period (2015–2022). Accordingly, the study confirms that the comprehensive adoption of the Balanced Scorecard contributes to improving the level of sustainability disclosure by aligning banks' strategic objectives with modern environmental, social, and economic requirements and enhancing transparency towards stakeholders. Recommendations: The study recommends developing regulatory and legislative frameworks that oblige banks to regularly disclose their sustainability practices through directives issued by central banks and securities authorities. It also suggests implementing training and capacity-building programs for employees in the banking sector on the concepts of sustainability, social responsibility, and the Balanced Scorecard to reinforce institutional culture. الاهداف: هذه الدراسة إلى فحص أثر كفاءة الأداء المتوازن على الإفصاح عن الاستدامة في البنوك المدرجة في بورصتي فلسطين وعمان للفترة الممتدة من عام 2015 الى 2022. المنهجية: اعتمدت الدراسة على المنهج الكمي التحليلي من خلال معالجة بيانات (20) بنكًا. وأظهرت النتائج أن مستوى الإفصاح عن الاستدامة جاء بمستوى متدني بواقع (35%) وفق المؤشر المعتمد. النتائج: كما تبين وجود أثر معنوي لكل ابعاد بطاقة الأداء المتوازن على مستوى الإفصاح عن تقارير الاستدامة، الاستنتاجات: توصلت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من الاستنتاجات التي تعكس طبيعة العلاقة بين كفاءة الأداء المتوازن ومستوى الإفصاح عن الاستدامة في البنوك المدرجة في بورصتي فلسطين وعمان خلال الفترة (2015–2022). وبناءً على ذلك، تؤكد الدراسة أن التبنّي الشمولي لبطاقة الأداء المتوازن يسهم في تحسين مستوى الإفصاح عن الاستدامة، من خلال مواءمة الأهداف الاستراتيجية للبنوك مع المتطلبات البيئية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية الحديثة، وتعزيز الشفافية تجاه أصحاب المصلحة. التوصيات: وتوصي هذه الدراسة العمل على تطوير الأطر التنظيمية والتشريعية التي تُلزم البنوك بالإفصاح المنتظم عن ممارسات الاستدامة، من خلال تعليمات صادرة عن البنوك المركزية وهيئات الأوراق المالية، وتنفيذ برامج تدريب وتأهيل للعاملين في القطاع المصرفي حول مفاهيم الاستدامة والمسؤولية الاجتماعية، وبطاقة الأداء المتوازن لترسيخ الثقافة المؤسسية.
