This article examines the influence of Russian national cultures on the development of primary school students’ socio-cultural identity: their sense of belonging to Russian society and representing a particular ethnic group. Events related to the historical past and the reflection of universal spiritual and moral values in ethnic cultures are discussed. Methods for working with folklore of various types and genres are explored. Particular attention is paid to engaging primary school students in folk festivals and a variety of creative activities.
