This is a brief review of John Eekalaar's Family Law and Personal Life (2006), a book that argues for an open society that embraces but goes beyond traditional forms and norms of marriage and family life. Although I see more promise in various historical models of marriage and family life than Eekelaar seems to allow, no one can fail to appreciate the acuity of his insights or the urgency of his message: traditional Western marriage and family life and law are in trouble, and we need to think very hard about radical reforms.
Witte, Jr., John (Thu,) studied this question.
