This research examines strategies for translating metaphors from Russian into English in official presidential addresses of Kazakhstan and Russia (2021-2024). Using the Metaphor Identification Procedure (MIP) and translation strategies by Newmark and Schaffner, the study analyzes a corpus of translated presidential addresses. Results reveal that retention is the most frequent strategy, especially in Kazakhstani discourse where metaphorical integrity is preserved. While retention also prevails in Russian discourse, substitution and explicitation occur significantly more often than in Kazakhstani discourse, reflecting cultural adaptation and ideological reinterpretation. The novelty lies in the comparative analysis of metaphor translation in Kazakhstani and Russian presidential addresses, contributing to understanding metaphor translation in diplomacy and highlighting the translator's role in shaping political discourse across cultures.
