Abstract Rom 1:13–15 is beset with a number of difficult exegetical problems, which makes it impossible to find agreement on why Paul wrote Romans. By punctuating vv. 13–14 differently and suggesting a different syntactical reading of v. 15, this article proposes that Romans was designed to help its recipients to proclaim the gospel.
