The largest and the most extensive changes to India's indirect taxation system was the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which aims to establish a uniform and efficient tax system. The incorporation of digital technologies into the administration of GST has been a major factor in its success. By substituting automated, technologically advanced solutions for human processes, digital transformation has drastically changed how tax systems function. The effectiveness, accountability, and transparency of tax administration have greatly increased because to platforms like the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), e-filing systems, e-invoicing methods, and sophisticated data analytics tools. The influence of digital transformation on GST administration is examined in this article, with an emphasis on how it might improve tax governance. It emphasizes how technology has improved compliance procedures, decreased human intervention, lowered errors, and enabled real-time monitoring. By improving data matching and transaction tracking, the use of digital tools has also reduced tax evasion, increasing revenue collection and system trust. Digital platforms have also made it easier for taxpayers to register, file returns, and pay taxes. However, the study also notes a number of issues with digital GST systems in spite of these developments. Concerns about cybersecurity threats, infrastructure deficiencies, digital illiteracy, technological obstacles, and the burden of compliance for small and medium-sized businesses continue to exist. These difficulties underscore the necessity of ongoing technology advancements, capacity building, and governmental support to guarantee that the advantages of digital transformation are sustainable and inclusive. To sum up, digital transformation has significantly improved tax governance in India and modernized GST administration. Even though there has been a lot of progress, further innovations and changes are needed to solve current issues and improve the tax system's efficacy, equity, and resilience.
