This study aims to shed light on the role of the European Court of Human Rights in the development of international human rights law, by identifying the foundations of protection embodied in the court, and the role it plays in the way of embodying this protection at the regional and international level, in addition to its competence in interpreting the law, which has become keeping pace with modern trends in dealing with various current humanitarian issues. In light of this, we have concluded that the European Court of Human Rights is a fundamental tool for the protection of human rights, as it focuses on vulnerable groups through procedural guarantees and obliges states to take positive measures. It strives to enhance this protection in collaboration with specialized mechanisms and non-governmental organizations. Accordingly, we have determined that it is necessary to innovate new methods to address emerging human rights issues, in addition to advancing and developing the role of the European Court by making its judgments the most reliable source of human rights jurisprudence.Keywords: European Court; European Convention on Human Rights; Protection of Human Rights; Mechanisms for monitoring human rights.
