Every library personnel need training to acquire work skills in order to compete effectively in our changing society. Library personnel need extensive training and job knowledge and skills to function properly and be productive on the job. This paper aimed to assess staff development practices for library personnel and services delivery in public universities in South-South, Nigeria. The research design adopted for this study was descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised of 762 library personnel – librarians, paraprofessionals and library assistants working in the 13 public universities in South-South, Nigeria. The sampling technique adopted for this study was a total enumeration. The measuring instrument used for the study was questionnaire. The data collected from the completed questionnaire were analysed. By the result, there was staff development practices for library personnel in public universities. This implied that, staff development is essential for services delivery of librarians in public universities in South-South, Nigeria. The paper concluded that the quality staff development practices adopted by library management to develop library personnel in public universities in South-South, Nigeria determine and enhance services delivery of personnel. The paper recommended, among others, that the management of public university libraries in South-South, Nigeria should sustain and improve on staff development practices for library personnel to enhance services delivery of personnel in public universities in South-South, Nigeria.
