This paper provides a detailed review of PV/T systems and their related cooling technologies. It identifies and systematically classifies several methods, including active techniques of forced air and pumped water with or without nanofluids, passive cooling by heat sinks, phase change materials, and hybrid cooling techniques, and presents a critical evaluation. Thermal management in photovoltaics is highly effective in counteracting the efficiency loss due to operational overheating. The comparison between theoretical, experimental, and numerical studies from 2013 to 2026 evidences the research included in the Clarivate database. The key temperature reductions and efficiency gains were obtained through various cooling strategies. It also integrates strategic SWOT analyses for the most used air- and water-based working systems. The results are intended as a point of reference, which gives clear indications of the optimal selection and further development of cooling solutions for increasing the energy yield and economic viability of solar energy systems in several applications and various climatic conditions.
