Fukuoka Airport is an exceedingly convenient airport located close to the city center of Fukuoka, a major city in western Japan's Kyushu region, and it is notable for this characteristic even throughout Japan. However, it was a very crowded airport with approximately 180 000 movements per year with a only one runway. To solve the issue and increase future flight capacity, a new runway with a closed parallel configuration began its operation in March of 2025. However, as well as noise issues caused by aircraft taking off and landing at the airport, there are also concerns such as a shortage of useful facilities in the vicinity of the airport. Fukuoka International Airport Co., Ltd., which operates Fukuoka Airport, implements measures to improve the living environment of local residents and promote coexistence with the airport, and has earned the understanding and cooperation of the local community in its airport operations. In this report, we will introduce the concept of coexistence between Fukuoka Airport and the local community, as well as ways to build relationships between the airport and the community, under the vision of “community development with airport.”
