Abstract

Middle Bronze Age date and the other of Roman date. The Middle Bronze Age site comprised a series of unusually deep pits and a few postholes, but was notable for its paucity of artefacts. The deposits included two cremation burials, one urned. A modest volume of Roman features was revealed suggesting the presence of a farmstead of low status. The chronology of the deposits revealed is typical for the region with a commencement early in the 1st century AD and continuing into the 3rd century AD. Various late post-medieval linear features corresponded with boundaries on the parish tithe map of 1846 with a double ditched trackway corresponding with a lane that was also in existence in c. 1760 but went out of use after the golf course was built in the early 20th century.
