Twenty-two machine excavated trial trenches covering 2% of a proposed development site targeted areas of previously identified aerial photography analysis and geophysical (magnetometry) survey anomalies, blank areas and areas of magnetic disturbance were investigated. The evaluation identified seven undated furrows in two fields, of uncertain date. Fourteen ditches were identified, twelve of which were in the same field and seven of which contained Medieval potsherds dating from the mid-11th to late 12th century AD and animal bone fragments. One possible ditch terminus, two pits and a posthole were in close proximity within the same field, and one of the pits also contained potsherds of the same date. A drove way continuing into the site from a Scheduled Monument (Multi period settlement, cemetery and ceremonial complex west of Lechlade NHER 1003434) immediately to the north of the site was found, and an associated trample deposit contained residual Roman CBM as well as mid-11th to late 12th century AD pottery and animal bone. A curvilinear feature and associated circular feature within the same field as the Scheduled Monument were found but contained no dating evidence.
