“Milieu teaching” means making use of the total classroom situation as a teaching tool. Betty Bradley describes a project carried on at the Columbus State School in Ohio in which milieu teaching was used to promote both learning and more acceptable behavior in retarded children. Examples are given to illustrate how it was used with children with specific but widely differing problems. Mary Turner, from California, tells of the unexpectedly large benefits of a casually initiated work program for retarded children in an intermediate class.
