The translation of journalistic and media-specific texts between Arabic and Uzbek presents a complex array of linguistic, cultural, and structural challenges. As diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the Arab world and Uzbekistan continue to strengthen, the demand for accurate and culturally nuanced media translation has grown significantly. This article explores the specific difficulties encountered when translating idioms, headlines, and cultural references from Arabic into Uzbek within a journalistic context. Drawing upon a comparative linguistic analysis of media texts from prominent news agencies, including the “Al Jazeera ” news agency and various Arabic press outlets, this study investigates the strategies employed by translators and editors to achieve functional equivalence. The research highlights that literal translation often fails to convey the intended impact of journalistic units, necessitating the use of adaptation, descriptive translation, and cultural substitution. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the critical role of the editor in refining translated texts to ensure they resonate with the target audience while maintaining the integrity of the original message. The findings contribute to the broader field of Arabic-Uzbek translation studies and offer practical insights for media professionals navigating these two distinct linguistic systems.
