The archaeological watching brief comprised the monitoring of: a. General ground reduction at the side of the property where ground was levelled in preparation for pilling; and b. The excavation of strip footings to the rear of the property. A plan of the monitored areas is shown on figure 2 of the report. All work was carried out according to the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) standards and according to the agreed Written Scheme of Investigation. Full context descriptions are presented in Appendix 1. A digital colour photographic record was maintained, some of which is reproduced in the report as plates 1-5, Appendix 2. The fieldwork was undertaken by Michael Blake. The watching brief revealed a simple stratigraphy of modern overburden overlying a buried soil horizon (105) which overlay the natural geology. No archaeological deposits or features were present within the monitored area and all of the finds recovered were of 19th to 20th century origin.
