This review examines Fear of a Dead White Planet (Duke University Press, 2025) by the More Worlds Collective (Joseph Masco, Tim Choy, Jake Kosek, and M. Murphy). The book argues that contemporary universities reproduce the same "Charismatic Mega Concepts" — planetary thinking, sustainability, the environment — that oligarchs and fossil-fuel producers mobilize to advance technocratic, solutionist responses to ecological crisis. The review situates the book's contribution relative to existing critiques of green capitalism and climate universalism, and highlights its distinctive methodological intervention: a call for situated, relational, and reflexive research practices that begin by interrogating the conditions under which research "objects" are constructed. Published in Antipode: A Radical Journal of Geography.
