The programme of trial trenching comprised 8no 30m x 2m trenches, placed to investigate anomalies identified during a geophysical survey. In Trenches 2 and 3, structural remains related to the World War II anti-aircraft emplacement were identified alongside a series of field drains aligned in a chevron pattern that overlaid likely made ground. In Trenches 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, evidence of a field boundary, observed on 19th century mapping, and likely associated drainage ditches were identified. These were sealed by made ground associated with ground preparations for the World War II anti-aircraft emplacement. The only artefactual material collected was a small assemblage of Middle Bronze Age pottery, all likely residual having been recovered from the fill of the proposed 19th-century field system.
