ARCUS were commissioned by John Cunnington Architects, on behalf of the Parochial Church Council of St. Marys Denby, to undertake archaeological monitoring of extension works at the church of St. Mary the Virgin, Denby, Derbyshire (SK 398 465). Six articulated human burials of probable eighteenth-century date were recorded, along with a quantity of disarticulated human bone. The construction sequence of the west wall of the north aisle was assessed. A few courses of the original aisle construction (c. 1450) survived towards the base of the wall, but the majority of the stonework was associated with more recent rebuilding, probably during the nineteenth century.
