Abstract The geriatric branch is concerned with the health and welfare of the elderly population. Ayurveda mentions Jara Chikitsa (geriatrics), a branch that is comparable to the geriatric branch of the contemporary healthcare system. Aging is an inevitable natural and continuous process, particularly called Svabhavaj Vyadhi (natural disorder) in ancient Ayurvedic classical texts. This phase of life is not only a dependent age, but also the elderly begin to suffer from physical and mental illnesses due to multiple factors. As per the Ayurvedic concept of aging, there is predominance of the Vata Dosha ( Dosha responsible for movement), which is considered to cause various diseases, which can be comparable with those of degenerative changes mentioned in the contemporary healthcare system. This review article aims to compile the benefits and therapeutic effects of various Ayurvedic practices, such as Dincharya (daily regimen), Rutucharya (seasonal regimen), Panchakarma (cleansing therapy), Rasayana (rejuvenation therapy), the Ahara (diet), and the Yogik practices, which help to delay the onset of aging and improve the health of the elderly. Information about geriatrics was gathered by searching a number of Ayurvedic textbooks, magazines, e-databases, and contemporary writings. The result revealed explicit outcomes of Ayurvedic practices, and one can achieve longevity and maintain good health well into old age by adopting them. It is critical that senior citizens are made aware of these advantages and that younger individuals are encouraged to adopt them from adulthood.
