Abstract Translational metabolomics has enhanced the accuracy of diagnostic medicine, serving not only as a predictor but also as a reliable indicator of disease. Advancements have integrated biomarkers, proteomics, genomics, and metabolomics into the diagnosis of periodontal diseases as well as evaluating the treatment response. Metabolomics has the potential to assist in the identification and determination of the stage of periodontitis. Furthermore, it can also aid in the assessment of periodontitis during follow-up evaluations. Nevertheless, it remains as a developing method and still has a long way to go with its share of challenges. Focusing efforts on enabling it for integration into clinical periodontal practice can be a significant asset, particularly with the changing mechanisms and developments of periodontal disease. This review highlights the magnitude of implementing “Omic” based technologies in periodontal practice.
