This study aims to develop and implement local-wisdom-based poster teaching materials to improve critical thinking skills among fifth-grade students at Ulee Paya Elementary School. The learning material was designed by integrating classroom concepts with the local wisdom of Pulo Aceh, including community practices, environmental knowledge, and cultural narratives that are familiar to students. This study employed a Research and Development method using the ADDIE model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The participants were 27 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through pretest and posttest questions, teacher and student response questionnaires, classroom observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that local-wisdom-based poster teaching materials supported students’ critical thinking development. The percentage of students achieving the passing standard increased from 40% in the pretest to 80% in the posttest. Qualitative evidence also showed that students became more active in interpreting information, asking questions, giving reasons, and relating learning content to their socio-cultural environment. The improvement was supported by clear visualization, contextual examples from local culture, and more interactive classroom discussion. Therefore, local-wisdom-based poster teaching materials are feasible and relevant for strengthening critical thinking skills in elementary thematic learning, particularly in schools located in culturally rich communities.
