The article examines the problem of developing the communicative competence of a future physician in Russian language classes as one of the key conditions for the professional training of a modern medical specialist. It is proved that Russian language classes become an effective environment for the formation of this competence when they are based on the genres of medical discourse, the modeling of typical clinical situations, the use of authentic materials, instruction in strategies for explaining medical information in clear language, and the development of dialogic interaction skills.
