During the keynote lecture entitled “Paper-based electrochemical (bio)sensors: where we are and where we are going,” Prof. Fabiana Arduini provided an overview of the progress achieved in the development of electrochemical paper-based sensing platforms, with a particular focus on their impact in the biomedical field. The lecture traced the evolution of these devices from simple analytical tools to integrated systems capable of addressing current challenges in point-of-care diagnostics. Prof. Fabiana Arduini discussed how the intrinsic properties of paper, including porosity, capillarity, flexibility, and biodegradability, can be strategically exploited to develop low-cost, disposable biosensors suitable for rapid and reliable detection of biomarkers in complex biological fluids. Case studies presented during the lecture highlighted the potential of these platforms in disease management, therapeutic monitoring, and screening applications. During the conference, Prof. Fabiana Arduini also met Prof. Arben Merkoci, Chair of the conference and member of the Advisory Board of PHOENIX-OoC, and Prof. Javier Ramon, partner of PHOENIX-OoC, to discuss the progress and future perspectives of the project.
