Talking about augmented humans 2030 stopped being science fiction. Neuralink already has human patients implanted, Synchron operates with less invasive vascular interfaces, exoskeletons rehabilitate paraplegics in São Paulo hospitals, and cognitive prostheses (smart glasses, smart earphones, wearables that boost memory and attention) are already in mass market. The question for LATAM is not whether it arrives, but how: who accesses, under what regulatory framework, with what safety guarantees, and what we do with the gap between augmented and non-augmented humans. In this article I review the real state of the field in 2026, the cases I have seen up close in the region, and the three ethical debates we must have before they are imposed on us by accomplished facts.
