This article documents and contextualises the key issues that were discussed at Music Theatre Futures – the first conference for Australian music theatre. The inaugural in-person event was held at the University of Melbourne in July 2024. The conference emerged as a response to the immense changes and challenges to Australian music theatre following the pandemic. It created a necessary space for industry professionals, academic researchers, teachers and coaches of professional music theatre from around Australia – and from around the world – to discuss pressing issues and imagine ways forward to invest in a positive future for our art form.
