Abstract This special issue of Comedia Performance reflects on the Chamizal Siglo de Oro Drama Festival, a milestone in the history of Hispanic Golden Age theatre in the Americas. Founded in 1976 in El Paso, Texas, Chamizal became a hub for performance, scholarship, and cross-cultural exchange rooted in the US–Mexico borderlands. With a focus on accessibility and education, it brought comedia to diverse audiences and fostered lasting academic and artistic collaboration. This volume gathers the voices of those who shaped the festival, offering critical perspectives on its history, impact, and continued relevance in the field of Hispanic classical theatre.
