The interim final rule implementing the Medicaid work requirements enacted through H.R. 1 (the “Big Beautiful Bill Act”) takes effect January 1, and on that day some 5.3 million people will lose health insurance. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published the final rule on June 4 in the Federal Register ( https://public‐inspection.federalregister.gov/2026‐11094.pdf ). Comments are due by July 31.
