Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies of the digital era, significantly influencing cybersecurity practices across public and private sectors. The integration of large language models and generative systems into cybersecurity operations has improved threat detection, malware analysis, vulnerability assessment, and automated incident response. However, the same technologies have also enabled sophisticated cyberattacks, including AI-generated phishing campaigns, deepfake-based social engineering, prompt injection attacks, and automated malware development. This paper examines the dual role of Generative AI in modern cybersecurity by analyzing both its benefits and associated risks. The study adopts a conceptual and analytical approach based on recent developments in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity research. The findings suggest that while Generative AI enhances operational efficiency and decision-making capabilities, it simultaneously introduces new security vulnerabilities that require robust governance mechanisms. A framework for secure and responsible adoption of Generative AI in cybersecurity environments is proposed. The paper concludes that future cybersecurity strategies must balance technological innovation with ethical, regulatory, and security considerations to ensure sustainable and trustworthy AI deployment.
