ABSTRACT Intellectual capital management in educational institutions is a big challenge and involves strategic and systematic approach that educational institutions undertake to identify measure, develop, and leverage their intellectual assets for enhanced performance and sustainable competitive advantage. The paper aims to examine intellectual capital research along with other prominent publication patterns over the period of 8 years, i.e., from 2015 to 2022. Bibliometrix library and BiblioShiny platform of the RStudio and VOSviewer software were utilized to conduct the bibliometric analysis using the data from the Scopus database (Total Scopus Data = 61). There have been 323 publications in reputable journals to date, including 213 research articles, 77 conference papers, 20 book chapters, eight reviews, two conference reviews, one book, one editorial, and one retracted article (1). This study also presents the list of authors with the most significant publications in the top 25 journals. The results show that knowledge assets, innovation, organizational learning, and the strategic role of relational, structural, and human capital in improving institutional performance are becoming increasingly important. The study also emphasizes how higher education is moving toward digital transformation and knowledge‐sharing ecosystems. The primary contribution consists of offering a methodical summary of the ICM research field, pointing out shortcomings, and recommending future lines of inquiry. Future study on the effects of intellectual capital practices on organizational performance and creativity in educational contexts should be guided by the identification of emerging trends, important authors, and research gaps that a bibliometric analysis could provide.
