This issue of Traffic Safety Facts describes the most current data on large trucks and associated fatalities in motor vehicle crashes from 2024. Key Findings: In 2024 there were 5,340 people killed in crashes involving large trucks, a 2.5-percent decrease from 2023; 70 percent of people killed in large-truck crashes were occupants of other vehicles; 76 percent of the fatal crashes involving large trucks were on weekdays; and 4 percent of drivers of large trucks in fatal traffic crashes in 2024 had BACs of .08 g/dL or higher, much lower than drivers of other vehicle types (25% for motorcycles, 25% for passenger cars, and 19% for light trucks).
