By upgrading to an open-source, scalable platform (Ceph), UMBC aims to provide a high-capacity, high-performance, and flexible storage environment. This will enable a wider range of research disciplines to efficiently use their data while supporting both established and emerging scientific communities. The new infrastructure also positions UMBC for stronger collaboration with external partners, improved research data management in line with open science practices, and robust support for future data-intensive research needs.
