The vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 aims to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. Higher education institutions play a critical role in this transformation by producing skilled human resources, fostering innovation, and promoting socio-economic development. Colleges, as the backbone of the higher education system, contribute significantly to knowledge generation, skill development, entrepreneurship, and research. However, they also face several structural and institutional challenges such as limited infrastructure, shortage of qualified faculty, outdated curriculum, and inadequate industry linkage. This study examines the opportunities and challenges faced by colleges in contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The research is based on secondary data collected from government reports, research articles, and educational statistics. The study finds that digital learning, industry collaboration, multidisciplinary education, and research culture present major opportunities for colleges, while resource constraints, employability gaps, and technological adaptation remain major challenges. The paper concludes with policy suggestions to strengthen colleges so that they can effectively contribute to national development.
